Grease Fire at the Rickshaw

Everybody's favorite Chinese-and-karaoke dive bar the Rickshaw in Greenwood had a fire on Saturday night.

In a total failure of euphemism, investigators apparently said "a grease fire erupted in the kitchen." Sixty happy karaoke-singers were on site at the time, but everyone got out unscathed.

The Rickshaw apparently makes 31 different kinds of omelets in addition to its Chinese menu (hence all the grease?).

Oh, and just so you know, there is a LOT of frying involved in Americanized Chinese food, people. LOTS O GREASE. Especially at the Rickshaw.

Maybe the insurance money will help pay for a much needed degreasification of the whole place. As someone who's lived down the street from the Rickshaw pretty much my entire life, it would be nice to see the place spiff up a bit. It is a unique Seattle institution, but it could use a facelift.

"Sixty" karaoke singers? Really? I went there once and there were about five sad looking regulars and that seemed like a big crowd for the place. Sounds like a marketing ploy to me:
"Really, the place was rocking! Standing room only. Great singers too. If only it wasn't for that damn fire...but don't worry, we'll be open again next Saturday."

Come to think of it - one of the in-house psychics should have seen the fire coming.

Clean your vents, people.

How much money did you save now, Rickshaw?

I was really hoping that a band named Grease Fire was appearing at the Rickshaw :-( Glad everyone got out ok.
