What Are You Reading?

Posted by on Fri, Mar 23, 2012 at 1:21 PM

Anyone else love scoping what people are reading in public? It's one of my favorite people-watching activities. If you go to a park right now, there will likely be some of that action going on. People in this city read outside a lot, which I love. But if you're stuck inside, check out the Underground New York Public Library (the main page is here, but I like that archive view better). It's just a blog of photographs of people reading on the subway in New York. It's a pleasant way to spend 10 minutes of your afternoon.

Thanks, Slog Tipper (other) Anna!

One of the big downsides with Ebooks is that you don't know what the person across the aisle from you on the El or the bus is reading. An opening for a "Great book, I edited that" (I actually have been able to do that several times), or just some potboiler? Cannot tell on Kindle. . .

Scientific papers, mostly. Download them in bulk and read them on the bus and at home.

The wonderful part of being an alumni is free access to all the research journals.

I not only love looking at what other people are reading, but when I chose books to be read in public, I chose them based on how other people will judge me. I may read Grisham in the privacy of my own home, but on public transportation, I make a point of carrying around more interesting books. :) Thanks for the link. That site is great.
