Apologies—this happened a couple days ago—for those of you who care, here's a PDF of all 119 pages of this year's James Beard Award finalists, from the Broadcast Media Video Webcast award to the medal of valor for Outstanding Restaurant Graphics.

But here are the nominees you want to know about, for Best Chef: Northwest:

Matt Dillon—Sitka & Spruce/The Corson Building, Seattle
Jason Franey—Canlis, Seattle

Christopher Israel—Gruner, Portland, OR
Naomi Pomeroy—Beast, Portland, OR
Cathy Whims—Nostrana, Portland, OR

Can Dillon or Franey prevail in the Portlandia era? If they put a bird on it?

In other local nominations, Tom Douglas is once again up for Outstanding Restaurateur—maybe it's finally T-Doug's year!

And some local writing received nominations, too: Brad Thomas Parson for his book Bitters in the Book/Beverage category; Modernist Cuisine in Book/Cooking from a Professional Point of View (it will win or I'll eat my sous vide hat); and Maureen O’Hagan of the Seattle Times in Journalism/Health and Well-Being for her series on childhood obesity “Feeling the Weight: The Emotional Battle to Control Kids’ Diet.” And finally, local artist Christopher Boffoli is somewhat confusingly nominated for his tiny people/giant good photos in the Journalism/Humor category.

Winners will be announced May 4. Hi!
