Jay Inslee Disappointed That It Took a Court Ruling to Keep Rob McKenna from "Playing Politics" on Gay Marriage

Posted by on Tue, Mar 13, 2012 at 3:31 PM

Jay Inslee was in the middle of a press conference at an alternative energy car manufacturer in Kent when the ruling on the R-74 ballot title came down, and Eli called in with Inslee's immediate response:

"It's very disappointing that it took a court to force our attorney general to follow the law—and to stop him, frankly, from playing politics on this matter."

Inslee says he's happy for people to have an opportunity to vote on this issue, but that he found it "gratifying" to have the AG's troublesome phrasing of the ballot title struck down.

In Eli's opinion, Inslee's stance on gay marriage provides one of the sharpest contrasts he's drawn to date between himself and Rob McKenna. I'd have to agree.

I think it is a little self-serving that Inslee is "happy" people will have a chance to vote on others' constitutional rights. The progressive voter will surly be more engaged because of this campaign, but it is unfortunate that we have to go through this at all.

@ Simply Me I agree, though relatively speaking, it's marginally better than having one's constitutional rights dictated to by a handful of politicians.

I choose to interpret that as he's confident that the voters will make the right choice.

Similar to when you say something like "I'm happy to demonstrate...". It doesn't necessarily mean you prefer doing it over not doing it, it just means you're willing to do it.

Or something.

Maybe gay marriage isn't the most important thing the state has to worry about and...OH MY FUCKING GOD! I JUST COMMITTED A HATE CRIME!

I'm sorry you feel that is what folks are pushing, 4. I prefer to not elevate one ballot issue over another. Everything that will be voted on is important.
