Moebius

Posted by on Sat, Mar 10, 2012 at 11:29 AM

The legendary French comics artist, whose real name was Jean Giraud, has died. He was 73. To many, Moebius is as big a deal as Jack Kirby. Among other things, he helped transform science fiction iconography, adding a sense of realistic clutter to the streamlined future that dominated our imagination in the middle of the last century. Find some tributes and a few samples of his work over at Robot 6.

I barely follow comics and I've heard of the name.

Moebius was literally one of the most influential comic book artists ever. Very sad.

damn it... Moebius work is the one piece of comics art I actually have framed on my walls. The man was a genius.

His retelling of the original Silver Surfer story in Parable is one of the most beautiful comics I ever read.

Having just seen some of his art, I have to say I'm really impressed.

It's been a real Oldguypocalypse these past few months. Rough season for old cartoon men.
