Budget Experts Call Senate Republicans' Plan "Not Sustainable or Compassionate"

Posted by on Tue, Mar 6, 2012 at 9:15 AM

Another slamming of the senate Republicans' budget-by-coup, this one from the Washington State Budget & Policy Center.

Among the Republican proposals that the Budget & Policy center says would end up "further undermining our economic progress" are these cuts:

Healthy People & Environment

-Eliminate medical care for 15,500 people who cannot work due to a disability.

-Cut Family Planning grants that keep women healthy during pregnancy, promote positive birth outcomes, and reduce the amount of unintended pregnancies.

-Reduce environmental health risk prevention services, including monitoring of water systems.

KEEEP READING. Because the more that is known about this Republican budget-by-coup, the less likely it is to succeed.

How can anyone justify further cuts to education when the state supreme court has already ruled that the state is already failing to meet its constitutional obligations in the classroom?

How is the Republican plan to underfund pension plans not a 'budget gimmick?'

How is sweeping the local portion of the liquor tax into the general fund supportive of local government?

The Republican budget (let's not let them get away with calling this budget 'bipartisan' just because they got a few token votes from people who are marginal Democrats at best....) is not only unsustainable, it's also dishonest to the few mainstream things they claim to believe in.

I was a bit confused by your use of NDT as Dr. Tyson's initials. His name is Neil deGrasse Tyson (the d is lower-case), so shouldn't it be NdT? Or perhaps NdGT?

I have other reasons to do a double-take when I see the initials NDT, but we won't go into that right now.

Why aren't the feds giving these people Medicare?

It might be a short-term disability. Or a disability not severe enough for Medicare coverage. Or the individuals could be waiting for Medicare to determine their eligibility.
