Saturday Morning News: Caucuses, Tornadoes, Dicks

Posted by on Sat, Mar 3, 2012 at 9:03 AM

It's Caucus Day! You celebrate by singing songs, putting up a tree, hiding eggs, and hanging out with Republicans. I think. Raucous out with your caucus out! Find your caucus location here.

Wreckage: "At least 90 tornadoes" hit the Midwest and the upper South yesterday. The death toll is currently 33; many people are still missing.

Déjà Vu: Vladimir Putin set to win Russia's presidential election tomorrow. Opposition protesters are promising to congregate in central Moscow on Monday, regardless of the election's outcome.

Alleged Embezzlement at Seattle Public Utilities: Police say a former project engineer for SPU stole more than $1.1 million by diverting customer payments into his own bank account. According to City Auditor David Jones: "It's a fundamental rule of financial management that you don't want the guy saying 'here's your invoice' to be the guy collecting the money."

Dicks Out: Congressman "Stormin' Norman" Dicks announces his retirement after 18 terms. Goldy's already speculating on his successor.

What Else Is New: Rush Limbaugh is a fucking asshole; the fallout continues after he repeatedly called a college student a slut for no good reason.

Get Out Your Shorts and Sandals, Seattleites: Tomorrow looks to be sunny and around 52 degrees.

How'd I Miss This? The Fremont Inn, better known as the Thunderbird Motel, on Aurora, has been demolished. Apparently it's set to become "71 affordable apartments run by Catholic Community Services."

Rush branded not just Fluke, but all women on contraceptives as sluts and prostitutes. Where is the outrage from Republican presidential candidates? Where is the statement from Santorum, Paul, Gingrich or Romney saying that Limbaugh's diatribe has no place in civilized discourse, and that he owes Fluke--and all women--an apology?

And, no, Mitt Romney's tepid statement "It's not the language I would have chosen," does not count.

Will non-Catholics be allowed to live in those apartments? How about gays and lesbians? How about "sluts" on birth control?

@2, simple answer is no. Those people are burning in the fiery pits of hell and become Satan's pinky finger ring.

Missing from all this Republican hate-talk, yet again, is any acknowledgment that it takes two to tango.

The vile double-standard that men are allowed to screw around all they want to (republican or conservative doesn't matter), while women are branded as sluts continues.

Someone seriously needs to challenge that gasbag Limbaugh (and all the other douchebags with R's after their names) with that assertion.

there's no condemnation from the right because limbaugh is "supposed to be funny". it's just not humor that liberals can understand.

the best investment the right wing ever made isn't going anywhere until he sheds this mortal coil.

Thunderbird: The 2010-2012 Thunderbird had to go but, back in the day, that place helped put a lot of people through college and was a welcome clean cheap safe place for a lot of families, loners and traveling salesmen. It was even,on occasion, a mental health outpost. I like that the site will be providing a similar service again.

@2 &3: Yes they would be allowed to live there, unless religious institutions are exempt from the anti-discrimination bill Washington State passed in 2006. I couldn't find an answer in my searches.

Catholic Community Services provides equal access to programs and services to individuals without regard to race, color, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, families with children, political ideology, age, creed, religion, ancestry, national origin, honorably discharged veteran or military status, or the presence of a physical, sensory, or medical disability or the use of a trained dog guide or service animal by a disabled person.

I want to go after Patricia Heaton, too, for making fun of Fluke and suggesting that all her followers send condoms to Fluke. If she's a celebrity spokesperson for anything, that company needs to fire her.

I'm glade that someone is going to restore the Thunderbird sign.

@9 Figures that one of the only outspoken conservatives in Hollywood happens to be a bland, talentless actress. When you were the most boring character on "Everybody Loves Raymond," that's really saying something.

@11

If you want something more painful than ELR. I guess it's be cause Heaton isn't trying to play a character.

Patricia Heaton already got fired as spokeslady for Albertsons, which is as crappy of a grocery store chain you are apt to find. Luckily, the poor thing will have residuals off of "Everybody Loves Raymond" to tide her over.
