What Is This Shirt Colder Than?

Posted by on Tue, Feb 21, 2012 at 9:36 AM

Colder than a polar bear's toenail. But do not expect any warmth from other parts of the world if you continue doing shit like this...

Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) — Qurans and other Islamic religious materials gathered for disposal from a detention facility at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan were inadvertently given to troops for burning, the commander of the International Security Assistance Force said Tuesday.
"This was not a decision that was made because they were religious materials," Gen. John Allen said. "It was not a decision that was made with respect to the faith of Islam. It was a mistake. It was an error. The moment we found out about it, we immediately stopped and we intervened."

Hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside the airfield Tuesday, furious over reports of the burning.

Seriously, get real.

No book-burning allowed. Killing people, though? Hey, that's cool.

Please. Most of the hadjis over there aren't even Islamic - or if they are, it's a twisted form of Islam mixed with weird Pashtu tribal crap, especially in the rural areas.

I once watched a village elder (from about 500 meters away) in Arghendab fuck a 10 year old boy who had been "given" to him. It's a fairly common practice, too.

I have a bitter hatred for the religion, but I'm fairly certain it doesn't condone boy-fucking.

That is such an inane thing to say.

How did it come about that every time anybody on the Internet suggests a wartime atrocity might have happened, some drooling keyboard cowboy has to instantly reply with "derp bad things happen in war derp"? Like did the chemicals in your brain tell you that's an insightful observation?

Instead of repeating some variation of "bad things happen in war", just say "first post!" It will actually make you look more intelligent.

No, seriously, fuck religion. Blame the ultimate cause, not the people caught in the middle.

@4 Accidentally burning a pile of books with a bunch of other garbage is now a "wartime atrocity?"

I guess accidentally taping over Downton Abby would be a war crime.

Hey ignorant fools. We've got something like 80,000 troops fighting or stationed there with a stated policy of creating some kind of stable situation so we can leave, hopefully leaving a ruling regime that isn't an avowed enemy. Not offending people is a necessary part to the fantasy of achieving this aim. We know the Islamic world was freaked out about the moron planning to burn Koran's in Florida (, though he has a right to do that if he wants.). However, if the aim is anything but US in perpetual war in Afghanistan, it should be explicit policy among all officers and enlisted men to consult on all matters touching religion. And not to offend if there is any way to avoid it. In fact, I'm guessing that IS the policy. So, either there is a massive training failure here, or there are some Christian fanatics and/or war profiteer agents deliberately setting out to offend.

Anyone who wants to make light of this, doesn't give a shit about Americans or anyone else being killed over there.

#4 Bad things happen in war, it's called collateral damage. FIRST POST BEFORE ASSHAT "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn".

#7 I thought we were there to capture Osama Bin Sex Kitten, not to build their schools. And keep in mind that part of the job description for a soldier means possibly being killed. If they sign up for the job THEY don't give a shit about life, not those of us who finance that waste. Just thought you should know the correct situation.

It's an insult to the professionalism of soldiers to pretend that just because you're in a combat zone all decisions are equal. Some decisions are wrong, some are correct. The difference between the two is the difference between a good commander and a bad one.

Some troops are fuckups who do the wrong thing. Some are good soldiers who make the right decisions. As if dumbshit Gomer Pyle can tell his CO that "bad things happen in war" every time he pulls another boner? No, that excuse does not fly.

Except among civilian keyboard warriors. "It's war!" is the all-purpose excuse among ignorant blowhards.

Seriously. I don't excuse actual US war crimes. However, claiming that accidentally burning some religious books is a "War Atrocity" is just a little over the top, don't you think?

Sure. It wasn't too bright. But war atrocity? Listen to yourselves for fuck sake. These were pamphlets, books and photocopies and shit in Dari or Pashto. It's not hard to imagine that some dumb 19 yo kid from buttfuck Iowa assigned to clean it all up wouldn't have any idea what most of it was.

Admit it: If these were Bibles you guys would be snarking up a storm. But no.

Must we coddle a bunch of bronze age extremist nut cases every time they feel their religion is abused?

In fact, not only must we coddle a small faction of lunatics, but we have to contribute to whipping them into a frenzy by agreeing with them and making a mountain from a mole hill and thus diminishing very REAL war crimes.

I'm all for hearts and minds and all that but we invaded their country and installed a puppet regime of drug dealers. I think the damage has been done in terms of hearts and minds.

Let's just get the fuck out of there. There isn't going to be a hand off to any "legitimized" regime. Kabul is going down six months after we leave no matter what. So give this jingoistic Support Our Troops shit a rest, okay.

venomlash, oddly I'm disinterested in talking to psychopaths who think I should be murdered for a rather moderate opinion. Weird, huh.
