Rick Santorum Says Obama Wants to Start Beheading Religious People

Posted by on Thu, Feb 9, 2012 at 11:47 AM

"We're a long way from" the guillotine, Santorum says, but "we are headed down that road."

I keep thinking about the time John McCain told one of his dumb supporters that Obama wasn't an "Arab," and I wonder if any of these three Republican candidates would do the same.

We already know Santorum won't. He had the chance a few weeks ago when a similarly confused and crazed old lady said to him at a Town Hall that President Obama isn't "legally allowed to be president" because "he's an avowed muslim."

This is the most disgusting presidential campaign in our lifetimes and it's only going to get worse, uglier, and more psychotic.

Why bother beheading them? There's no brain in there anyway.

And we've found the king of the Christians with persecution complexes.

I liked it when he said that questioning God-given rights led to the French Revolution.

He's correct, of course, but the god-given right that was under question in the French Revolution was divine right rulership. Is Santorum implying that we'd be better off with a monarchy? Has God chosen Rick to be King of America?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Where does this "Obama's hostile to religion" have its roots? I keep hearing this, but I have no idea where they're drawing this meme from. I don't doubt that it's at least exaggerated (or based on utterly ridiculous interpretation, like the "death panels"), but do they have an event or a court ruling to reference if asked?

@5
I think it comes from (a) Obama's perceived support for marriage equality, and (b) his policy that church employers should provide insurance packages that include contrqception.

Plus, of course, he's a Muslim Kenyan, and therefore, by definition, hates all religion.

Knat dear, haven't you noticed? Obama's black, and he has a funny name. Therefore, he must be anti-Christian.

As for Rick, poor thing. Untreated syphillis is a terrible way to go. If only he didn't have a thing about contraception, he may not be in this boat.

@7:

Well, to be fair, the wing-nuts would say pretty much the same thing about ANY Democrat, even if they invited a FOX News crew to follow them to church every Sunday.

I can't speak for Obama; but the only 'christians' I wouldn't mind seeing beheaded are the westboro assholes.

The worst I wish for Rick is if he lost his ability to speak.

@6: A couple popular themes emerge: One is the way that some Catholic adoption agencies in states like Illinois stopped receiving state funds because their refusal to let gay couples in legally-recognized civil unions adopt placed them in violation of state law. In some cases, rather than change their discriminatory policies, they closed the agencies. Conservatives often characterize this as the state forcing Catholic adoption agencies to close. Apparently they believe tax dollars should support religious organizations that refuse to follow the law.

Another similar battle concerns federal requirements that health providers provide contraceptives to clients who want it; this is further complicated by the fact that Plan B, which pro-life groups characterize as an abortifacient, is simply a higher dose of the contraceptive Levonorgestrel. So in their view, providing any access to that contraceptive is a tacit approval of abortion. Currently the Catholic Church is up in arms about the fact that they can no longer impose their views on contraception and abortion on the American people through their vast network of hospitals.

Then there are the usual suspects; not allowing the Ten Commandments to be displayed on public property, banning proselytizing in schools, saying "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas," etc. But access to contraceptives is the current hot button.

Santorum is a fanatical nitwit. It's hard to believe anybody within the bounds of sanity would have anything to do with him.

So do rapists get to claim rape when their victims press charges? Why do the historical oppressers in America's history get to play victim when all they seek is to gain back their goverment sanctioned/funded ability to opress their fellow Americans who just want to be left alone to not oppress anybody?

@ -5, I think the idea that it came from anything more than just somebody saying it is giving them too much credit. If you tell a crowd of "ginned up" conservatives that Obama is a commie/atheist/muslim/manchurian candidate/alien from outer space, they aren't exactly going to go out and fact check it. They just applaud.

Gingrich would certainly WANT to correct someone who called Obama an Arab. He'd probably resist the temptation if he wasn't too tired and cranky to remember that he can grift more dollars the less he challenges cherished reichwing misconceptions.

I was asleep in high school civics so can someone please point out where in the constitution it says that a Muslim cannot be president? Thanks.

@21: It's actually in the Constitution that a Muslim CAN be President.
The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.

I have a feeling that santorum does believe that President Obama is a secret Muslim who was elected illegally.
