You Know Who Hasn't Won in a While?

Posted by on Tue, Feb 7, 2012 at 2:26 PM

Rick Santorum, that's who! So, naturally, Santorum is leading in two of the three caucuses held tonightMinnesota and, especially, Missouri. Romney leads in Colorado, where he won in 2008 with more than 60% of the vote. Pertinent questions include:

· Are we looking another Santorum surge right in the face?

· Will Ron Paul continue to underperform?

· Will Gingrich do worse than expected? If so, is that a sign that last week's weird performance was his last chance with voters?

· Is Mitt Romney completely off-putting for middle-class Republicans?

We'll be live-Slogging the results tonight, starting at 5 pm, Seattle time. Join us for the results, the speeches, and the sheer what-the-fuck-just-happened-ness of it all.

Is anyone paying attention to the fact that Romney is not winning any states where there is an increase from 2008 in attendance at primaries and caucuses by "identified" (in exit polls) Republicans? Anyone trying to read the tea leaves from that?

Can we please write without using "Santorum surge" and "face" in the same sentence?

Gingrich isn't going to do anything at all in MO. He's not even on the ballot. Santorum will fill his bucket a little but he's still not a serious candidate, not when they get to the rest of the country. Romney's got it in the bag.

Was the trope that "Americans like to vote for the person they'd most like to have a beer with" one that only applied for George W. Bush in the 2000 and 2004 elections? What's the trope now? "Americans like to vote for the person with the best head of hair?" "Americans like to vote for the person most likely to ship their jobs to China?"
