People wanted more than USA...

So NASA gave them everything that is to be human: Africa.

Hah! I noticed that too: The original Apollo image showed Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. The new imaged put North America front-and-center, just like every old 50's grade-school wall map. The ones that broke the Soviet Union in half, one half on each side, just because, well, " 'Murrica, fuck yeah!"

Thank you NASA, for releasing the new image.

B-b-b-ut I was told that the United States was on the FRONT of the globe!

Too bad they couldn't have scootched it just a scounch and let Morocco, Western Sahara, Senegal, Gambia, Mauritania, Guinea-Bissau, etc. in on the glory.

@5--I'm pretty sure that this image is meant to invoke comparisons to the original "Blue Marble" picture from Apollo 17--which was taken from an almost identical angle...

(And, if you look at the two together--granted, the original Blue Marble picture was taken from about 4x further away than these images--it's astonishing how much less prominent the antarctic polar ice cap is...)
