Mitt Got Glitterbombed

Posted by on Wed, Feb 1, 2012 at 12:54 PM

Mitt Romney took the stage just after being glitterbombed in Minnesota. He spoke to the glitterbomber from the stage, "introducing" the person to the crowd: "Hi there. How are you? Good to see you. There we go." Then he segued the glitterbombing into the opening of his speech: "Hey, listen, guys, I am delighted to be with you, this is an exciting time, I'm happy for a little celebration. This is confetti! We just won Florida, and we're just going to be winning the White House next! Let me tell you, President Obama is not going to be seeing a lot of confetti."

His barely concealed rage at his attacker is maybe the most humanity we've seen out of Romney in months.

UPDATE: Even better! At the end of his glittery speech, this glittery, glittery version of Mitt Romney sang with the audience:

I don't know where Mitt Romney ends and Ke$ha begins anymore.

If only we could get a crowd of street schizophrenics to show up at every event. maybe he'd start to get concerned about the very poor.

Maybe Obama will finally start worrying about the middle class.

I read 99% of my political news. When I sit down and watch of videos of these people, whose words I almost exclusively read rather than hear, I am stunned. They all sound so inarticulate. They are often borderline nonsensical. I cringed listening to Romney trying to mouth that half-baked golfing insult.

At first I was impressed at how well he segued the glitterbombing into his speech, but then I figured that his staff prepared him for the possibility and that the remarks were memorized. Glitterbombing isn't that new of a stunt anymore.

Is it just me, or does this Romney fellow seem a little stiff?

I think the whole glitterbombing phenomenon lacks dignity. It doesn't make a clear statement and it feeds into negative stereotypes. It's hard to imagine the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King fighting for civil equality by throwing glitter on his oppressors.

His just-under-the-surface barely-contained foam-flicking-sputtering ragefest will one day be his undoing - that one split second when the mask slips and we see The Real Romney...

He makes my rage-dar go off BIGTIME...

@9 Umm, but MLK wasn't gay. Why would he throw glitter? What is the cultural connection there? I think it's a pretty clear statement. You're a homophobe or anti-gay bigot or support discrimination against LGBTQ folk. Do so, and you get glitter. It's not that complicated.

Constant's last line is hella funny.

What idiot glitter bombed him today? The Romney story today is that he doesn't care about the poor. Don't change the Romney story line now. Idiots.

And glitterbombing continues to be hilariously ineffective.

Also, someone needs to rewrite the lyrics to this song:

PURPLE MOUNTAIN. MAJESTIES. I learned this in first grade. No mountains! Just a mountain! Numerous majesties!

Is that golfing line used more to piss of well-informed liberals than its obvious pandering effect? Anyone capable of googling knows that Obama takes a fraction of the vacation that his predecessors did ('cept for Clinton, who took even less).
