Florida Is Over

Posted by on Tue, Jan 31, 2012 at 7:18 PM

According to Google, with 98% of the precincts reporting, the results are as follows:

Mitt Romney—46.4%
Newt Gingrich—31.9%
Rick Santorum—13.4%
Ron Paul—7%
Other—1.3%

It's looking like turnout is way down from Florida's 2008 Republican primary, and far below the Republican Party's expectations. (That's been a trend so far.) The best speech was Newt Gingrich's, the weirdest was Ron Paul's, the most desperate was Rick Santorum's. Now let's all agree to stop thinking about Florida for a few months, okay?

Wow, does this mean Jeb scrubbed all the dead republican'ts from the voting rolls, or only those he disagreed with?

Back when I lived in Georgia, my buddies and I made a practice of spelling Florida with a "duh".

Mitt needed a 24 point win.

This is less than half that.

Obama won tonite, with the much lower GOP turnout and the rapid dying off of GOP voters.

Lower than expected turnout and a temendous amount of money spent by Romney to achieve an approx. 14 point win over Newt and the rest of the pack. If I was Mit and his crowd, I'd be pretty disappointed and begin to wonder what needs to be fixed. Considering what had been spent, very poor results.

It doesn't matter how many you win by when it's winner-take-all, and it doesn't matter how much you spend when you have all the money in the world.

I want to know who the Others are. Are they weird-ass fringe candidates nobody really knows about? Are they votes for chumps who dropped out like Cain and Perry? Are they votes for chumps who were never actually in the running like Palin and Trump? Probably some combination of all of the above. But what else could they be?! .01% of all those votes must surely be fascinating and bizarre.

@6,

Rick Perry 0.41%
Jon Huntsman 0.37
Mitch Bachmann 0.24
Herbert Cain 0.21
Gary Johnson 0.07

I don't think any write-ins were allowed. You had to submit X signatures and stuff.

The kook votes will be out in the general election.

What Fnarf said. It's like "What do you call a med school graduate who barely passed the license exam? Doctor."

The person who got 54% of the vote is !Romney.

If this were a pick 2 situation, I think Gingrich would have gotten the votes from all other candidates, giving him the victory in round two.

@6: The Others are demons of cold from beyond the Wall. They ride undead steeds and wield swords so cold that most blades will shatter due to thermal stress when they meet them. Their eyes are a piercing blue and their skin is pale white. Anyone who falls in battle against them must be burnt or he will rise as a wight in their service. The Others are vulnerable to fire, obsidian, and possibly Valyrian steel.

@11, I'm sure you do think that, because you are thick as old paint. The reality is quite the opposite; Romney is the second choice of most Republicans, while Gingrich is deeply detested by pretty much everyone who didn't vote for him. In Round Two, Romney would have beaten Gingrich 68-32.

@13 put down the Mountain Dew and eat some activated charcoal, you're hallucinatin'.

I think Santorum is getting squeezed out.
