Ever Wanted to Hear Ira Glass Give Sex Advice?

Posted by on Tue, Jan 31, 2012 at 10:31 AM

Your prayers are answered: Ira joins me on this week's Savage Lovecast. The host of This American Life answers sex questions, explains why you can't talk about farts on the radio, and says the word "cock" sitting in front of a microphone. Listen here!

Listen to Dan flirt with Ira Glass for an hour. It's groovy!

That was… disturbingly surreal, listening to Ira Glass say “blowjob”.

I think Ira needs to be your regular co-host. Lucy was sweet and all, but Ira was a great balance for you.

Oh man, I'm so far behind. I'm on podcast 88, and I have a long way to go to catch up.

Ira seemed a little on edge and nervous at first. He must not be used to the slightly more "live" format you employ. He settled in great, though. I laughed very hard at many points in the podcast. Keep him to his word about coming back soon.

It felt weird, like listening in on a private conversation. Ira Glass doesn't say those words.

I loved you pointing out the ironic disclaimer This American Life uses. No adult content, but the story "does acknowledge sex exists." Best intro ever.

That was sort of surreal. Words coming out in Ira Glass's voice that I have never heard before.

I don't know... this just seems wrong. Ira Glass is so clean-cut...

that was wonderful. i agree with allyn @6 that ira was a great foil for you. other guests always seem somewhat intimidated by the fact that it's your show and you're the advice giver, etc... less so mistress matisse, but even her a little bit. there was a lot more and better quality back and forth in this episode.

This made my day (although I got some weird looks on the subway when I laughed out loud). Hearing Ira talk about blowjobs was so surreal, but awesome. You make a great team-- Please please please have him back on the podcast!

... So, who is this guy?

He spent so much time stammering and repeating his words that I was shocked to hear that his day job is radio - is he normally better? Based on his performance here, I have *zero* interest in looking him up, because WOW that was annoying.

Once he figured out what to say he was okay, but before then?

Who is this guy and why should I know him, again?

(yes, yes, Wikipedia. I'm not American, this is still the first I've heard of him, and WOW he has an excellent voice for mime.)

Aw.... I don't normally think about your podcasts, but when you post about 'em, it's too bad they're not transcribed. This one seems like it would be hilarious...

I love Ira Glass. I love sex advice.

Somehow though this just seems sort of wrong to me. Kind of like listening to a Terry Gross phone sex session.

I like Terry Gross, phone sex with someone smart should be hot, but that just goes to the wrong place.

@24 Ira Glass is a well-loved host of the public radio show This American Life, and has had Dan as a guest numerous times on his show. Since Ira's lines are a little more scripted and prepared on his show, and he's in his element, there's minimal stammering.

TAL is quirky and does a good job at being thought provoking and/or entertaining. He's got a good sense of humor. You might want to try to listen to one of the shows before writing him off completely.

That said, I'm totally looking forward to listening to this!!! Lil Geek heart goes SQUEE!

I know this comment is lost in a sea of "kudos" for podcast 267, but it was one of my favorite thus far. Ira and Dan make a great pair, even if Ira's advice was much, He brought out an interesting side of Dan. I never thought about how exploitative you are of others pain, or how I participate in that. However, I still think its worth it to hear another persons perspective/advice. Please have Ira back at least once a year. every thanksgiving? hour long special?

I really enjoyed the podcast. I agree with others - Ira needs to come back.

What's wrong with Anchorage? Except that it was fucking cold in January.

OK, I'm going to have a go at this one. Bear with me, it's about an hour long from what I can see (I have to confess to never having listened to one of Dan's podcasts. I know. The shame) so it's going to take a while because I'm rubbish at transcribing.

A transcription will appear presently in chunks..
