Middle School on Lockdown for Dog Attack

Posted by on Fri, Jan 27, 2012 at 10:27 AM

In Northeast Seattle this morning, staff at Eckstein Middle School had to distract two dogs to stop them from attacking a bus driver on school grounds, principal Kim Whitworth explained in voice message left with parents. Listen to her message here:

.

The driver "suffered puncture wounds to his hands," Whitworth said, and school officials called police to catch the dogs. Meanwhile, the school was placed on lockdown. "Lockdown means all students and staff remain in their classrooms," she continued. I've placed a call to the school but haven't heard back.

Slog tipper I Got Nuthin' asks, "Anyone want to take a guess at what breed of dogs these were?"

Show me a NE Seattle dogowner who doesn't think it's her animals' nature-given right to frolic on school grounds biting people and pooping on play equipment. Doesn't matter what breeds the dogs are: animals are only as smart as their owners.

I bet it was a poodle. Those are mean suckers.

Even asking the question about breed is morally equivalent to dropping a nuclear bomb in Selma, Alabama.

@1 you're kidding, right? I've never seen anything even remotely like that.

I'm going with a chihuaha. I mean some people would say pit bull but that would be somehow racist or mean or something like that.

Pomeranians are vicious when provoked.

Black labs, uncontrollable, stupid beasts that they are.

Cocker spaniels. I've yet to meet one that didn't bite.

Shotguns.

Oh, wait, I thought we were talking about chihuahuas. Vicious ankle biters ...

@8,

I had a cocker spaniel as a kid, and, while he did bite a few people during his life (including me), he never once broke the skin. Whatever dogs did this need to be powerful and vicious enough to do actual damage, so probably not a cocker or a toy dog.

A border collie and some kind of a lab.

@4: No I am not kidding. I've seen negligent/irresponsible dog owners at Olympic View, Jane Addams, NOVA... At Olympic View two supposed adults brought their dogs on the property to piddle in the play area, and when children told the adults it wasn't a dog park the adults said "Oh we didn't know, there were no signs around..."

There are responsible dog owners out there: I see and greet them when they exercise their dogs away from school property. I just wonder how it is the irresponsible ones can manage to buy food for their dogs but can't either pay for someone to walk their dogs or exercise their dogs themselves, or read signs and City of Seattle ordinances that pertain to their responsibilities as animal owners.

Shih tzu's, no doubt. Don't ever get them riled up!

What's with the lack of an avatar on #15? Pathetic, and welcome to Slog.

PS...I love my TARDIS and it could be sexual, I'm not sure yet.

@15 Mine is “Sun In An Empty Room” by Edward Hopper. I like his art. And this painting makes me feel melancholic.

If this had happened in "real America", the janitor would have grabbed his handy shotgun and had the situation dealt with before the morning school prayer was over.

@ 18 - I've always loved your avatar, Allyn.

Isn't that one of the last paintings that he did? Love his work...

And my guess for the dogs involved in the attack is... Mexican Hairless. Clearly a case of Mexican Hairless tag-team attack(did anyone ask to see their PAPERS omg?!?)...

They were both a "boxer/shepherd mix".

I have two Xolos (so-called Mexican Hairless). The gene for hairlessness is intertwined with a gene for shallow tooth roots, so they can't really bite anything very well! Their tongues hang out the sides of their mouths b/c they don't have any teeth to keep them in. They do have superior management skills, though. They could probably plan an attack but they would have to hire someone with decent teeth to carry it out!

@21 I've read both that it was THE last painting and that it was ONE of his last paintings.

It most likely wasn't a pit bull.... if it was the article would say so..... They only ever mention breed if it's a pit bull, rather funny how they work actually.

@23

So you have dogs with neither coats to protect them from sun or cold or teeth with which to feed themselves or even keep their damn tongues in their mouths?

Now THERE'S some damnably smart breeding going on! Guy breeding them, was his name Micheal Vick by any chance?

I was at that school during the lockdown. It was a white dog with brown blotches. Sorta like a bulldog, extremely aggressive. Kids at my school can be real jerks, the kids watching thought it was funny, stupid idiots.
