Friday Afternoon Quicky

Posted by on Fri, Jan 27, 2012 at 4:51 PM

If you've seen the Sherlock Holmes series on BBC (and you should because it's created by Steven Moffat, which is code for excellent), then you'll enjoy this music video, which perfectly syncs up shots from Sherlock with a SNL perennial favorite. And if you haven't seen the series, watch anyway. Seriously, this editing job is magical.

NSFAnywhere at top volume:

In other news, it's total bullshit that I have to wait until 2013 to see the follow-up to The Reichenbach Fall.

Thanks for making my day, Slog tipper Renee!

That new Sherlock is some of the best stuff... And I agree, it is a TRAVESTY that we have to wait months and months and months and yet even more months for new shows...

@2, I have to disagree about the joy of waiting, though - the English style of doing series does have its glitches but it seems to allow good writing to happen for these things. Waiting for something lovely is usually better than crap on demand. I realize that coming from me, a twenty-comment-a-day registered asshole on a thirty-posts-a-day blog, this sounds thin. But there it is.

We went and saw the robert downey sherlock sequel after finishing The Reichenbach Fall, it just made the hollywood attempt seem clunkly and awkward.

@1 and @3 Agreed and agreed (except the last bit about registered assholes). Also - Cumberbatch. I will wait. As long as it takes.

@#2 That doesn't explain why the second series has already aired in Britain but won't air in the US for months, and we've no idea when the DVD (and Netflix) release is. I'm sure I could find a way to view it illegally; while I'm willing to wait, and am doing so, it's frustrating that no legal means is available in a timely fashion.

Also, speaking of Cumberbatch, it really would be nice if the DVD of Danny Boyle's Frankenstein featuring Cumberbatch were ever to be released. The recording exists, and the show got rave reviews, but there's been no word of a DVD release.

Could have used a bit more Mycroft.

Also, EZTV.

Bauhaus I 9
The second season played on BBC 1 this January. Masterpiece will present it, I believe, in March. I was uneasy but also very excited about the second season. Could it match the brilliance of Season One? They started filming it late last year which seems like a rush job, but know what? It does not disappoint. Not at all.

I'm not very good at patience for weekly serials. Season Two of Downton Abbey is already available on DVD (and other places). Had to watch all of it in a couple of days. It aired on ITV1 in the UK last autumn.

Something has to be done for those of us who want to view-on-demand. I'd gladly pay for the privilege of watching in advance, but if you are going to make me wait for weekly installments...well, you are losing out on some profitability, Mr. Producer.

Also, enroll me, too, in the Cumberbatch fan club. He's good in Tinker, Tailor as well.

I almost despaired after seeing Season 2's second episode (way to take my favorite Holmes story and turn it into a pile of unintelligible mush) but HOLY CRAP was Reichenbach Fall great. Watson at the end of that ep just broke me.

Sherlock is wonderful work from Moffat...but his last series he did of Doctor Who was fucking horrid.

@4, I did the EXACT SAME THING. I spent the whole Hollywood version alternately rolling my eyes so much it made me dizzy and resisting the urge to get up and leave.

While I am of the opinion that Moffat is a sad, egotistical excuse of a writer who is so incapable of creating new characters he recycled Simms' Master to use for Moriarty, I will admit that the editing is brilliant.

@9, if you have a hacked DVD player or a multi-region player, the season 2 disks for the UK region have shipped already.

Cienna, I haven't kept up on release date information...do you mean 2013 for US airings or UK airings, or either? Because @7 makes a point I won't disagree with. ;P
