"Dear Mr. Scorsese: This Is What They Did to Your Movie Last Night."

Posted by on Fri, Jan 27, 2012 at 8:52 AM

Gothamist shares the story of the NYC screening of Martin Scorsese's Hugo that was plagued with problems, including two film-stopping projection malfunctions before the audience was made to watch the film's climactic 30 minutes overlaid with preshow advertisements. Enjoy the hilarity below.

The Gothamist report focuses on the crowd's anger, but in the video it sounds like they're having a great time enjoying the stupidity. (All attendees were given refunds and free passes to another screening.)

Watch now for the MPAA to go after the video taker for copyright infringement. *rolls eyes*

"film-stopping projection malfunctions" almost implies they were projecting 35mm film. But this was likely a problem with digital files/projection.

The projectionist union was busted years ago. Apparently it is not unskilled labor after all. The person responsible for the program was probably helping out at the concession stand.

4: Yes, it was digital, and I meant film-stopping as stopping the film that is Hugo.

I hope they were offered free popcorn after that fiasco. Oh, and I hope no one paid $1.50 for seasoning on their popcorn.

@1, yes they owned them for a while, but Seattlist sucked at making money.
