Fidel Castro Is an Astute Commentator on the American Political Process

Posted by on Wed, Jan 25, 2012 at 11:01 AM

This is more honest and true than anything Wolf Blitzer has said in the last ten years. Maybe CNN should give Castro his own show?

"The selection of a Republican candidate for the presidency of this globalized and expansive empire is – and I mean this seriously – the greatest competition of idiocy and ignorance that has ever been," Castro wrote, according to HuffPo.

@ 1 - Agreed. But then communists feel this way about ALL elections.

That would be a fair opinion if, you know, it didn't come from a dictator. Even our imperfect political system (and boy, it's imperfect) has infinitely less aggregate idiocy and ignorance than the Cuban one. I'd have thought that when you have turned your country into a glass house built out of idiocy and the oppression of your people you'd know better than throwing rocks.

I kind of have a crush on Fidel. He was pretty hot in his younger days.

And if anybody knows ignorance and idiocy, it's Fidel.

@3: I doubt Fidel Castro sees his legacy in Cuba that way.

I know little about levels of ignorance & idiocy in Cuba, but Cuban communism's failure or success is not black or white - there are grey areas. Absent our intransigent policies regarding travel & trade, our catering to absolutist Miami exiles, their invasion the CIA supported, the continued appropriation of Guantanamo & its use as an extraterritorial prison camp, who knows what they would be today? More like China? Would they even be communist?

I see that as a fair opinion coming from anyone in the world - Bashir Al Assad could say it and it would still be correct. Ad hominem does not invalidate the message.

I'm sure faux snooze would have a field day exploiting this. Who am I kidding, they probably are already.

The greatest competition of idiocy and ignorance since the last time Fidel gave one of his famous eight-hour speeches, that is -- the competition to feign interest and enthusiasm for endless rambling stroke-addled nonsensicalities is pretty damn idiotic, I'd say.

Do we believe that Fidel actually said this? Is there video? Because I don't believe that Fidel currently knows whether his diaper is full or not.

@8 It's not just his diaper. In Fidel's Cuba, it's everyone's diaper. And it had better be cloth.

The fact that Castro is a communist dictator has nothing to do with whether or not he is correct, and trying to conflate the two makes him appear even more righter.

The US has one more political party than Cuba in contention to lead the country, and they think they're God's gift to democracy.
