You Gotta Love Barney Frank

Posted by on Mon, Jan 23, 2012 at 8:00 AM

From the Q&A with Barney Frank in yesterday's NYT Magazine:

You’ve long argued for the decriminalization of marijuana. Do you smoke weed?

No.

Why not?

Why do you ask a question, then act surprised when I give an answer? Do you think I lie to people?

I thought you might explain why you support decriminalizing it but don’t smoke it.

Do you think I’ve ever had an abortion?

Go read the whole thing.

Reminds me of the Colbert apology:
What did Colbert have to apologize for? As he documented, he's previously referred to Frank as "United States Congressman and shaved Ewok Barney Frank," recommended that the Democrats fund health care by "looking for change in the folds of Barney Frank," and even said that Frank "wouldn't know a bad day for the economy if it were three feet behind him dancing disco."

Swoon! I have always loved his ability to quickly turn the tables on fatuous journalists. He never, ever accepts the premise of their questions when those questions are full of BS. And, the Hildy Johnson reference is just smashing!

Hildy Johnson never cried. And neither did Ben Hecht.

I call this move the "implied Dumbfuck" since you can practically hear that word at the end of his question.

Barney is blowing smoke up your asses.
It is a reasonable question;
it is well known that a a young reckless faggot
Barney got pregnant in his rectum.
He was spared the trauma of an abortion only by a
timely smelly brown miscarriage.....

Barney was awesome in that interview. And can I just add: UGH, the Q&A feature in the NYT magazine is just terrible. They ask the dumbest questions, and the whole thing just seems pointless. A while back, they switched this assignment to a new reporter, but it's *still* awful.

I think some more moderate liberals are uneasy about supporting the decriminalization of marijuana because they don't want people to assume they smoke it.

Maybe we need a campaign like "you don't have to smoke pot to know it shouldn't be a crime".

see what a solidly liberal district like WA-7 could have instead of mcdermott's grandfatherly seattle niceness?

I ate a burrito next to him in New Bedford last year. I'm sad he decided not to run again.

You really gotta love him for the "arguing with the dining room table" comment. He did not brook bullshit, that's for sure.

You're right, as always, Savage, we must love the fact that Mark Paese, Barney's former staffer who left to become chief lobbyist for Goldman Sachs (replacing Peterson, who left to become senior assistant to Treasury Secretary and Wall Street Super-Lackey, Timothy Geithner), only to return to the Hill to hand Barney GS's addition to that Dodd-Frank "financial reform" legislation, which Franks then put into the bill without changing anything whatsoever.

Yo, Savage, try to think about some issues other than drugs and sex, OK, dood?????

I wish there more more Dems like Barney Frank -- by which I mean, willing to call Republicans & the media who pander to them on their hypocrisy. BF is no Democratic pussy.

That's a question you'd never ask for anything besides marijuana legalization. Imagine:

"Do you support civil rights for black people?" Yes. "Well, that means you're black of course, right?"

"Do you support rights for immigrants?" Yes. "When did you cross the border?"

"Do you think gay people deserve the right to marry and adopt?" Yes. "Homo!"

The assumption that supporting marijuana legalization means that you smoke weed is the easiest way to discredit those supporters, and the most dishonest.

@20, there are some folks who will throw out the "Homo!" comment in discussions of gay rights and marriage equality.

@26,

Ditto.

At least now we can vote for Senator Warren!

Peace.

P.S. I also want to legalize pot, and no longer smoke it. There are so many other uses for the plant, including increasing tax revenue, that are possible.

He also supports running Gay prostitution rings out of his house but that does not mean he is Gay right?
He supports the 99% as some one needs to clean his bathroom as a 1%.
No one would listen when he told them Fannie and Freddie were fundamentally sound.
No doubt we need more like ole Barney.
