Please Thank Sen. Jim Kastama

Posted by on Thu, Jan 19, 2012 at 3:00 PM

He didn't have to do it.

State senator Jim Kastama is running statewide this year for Secretary of State. He'd have nothing to lose, really, with moderate swing voters for whom marriage equality isn't a priority issue. But, even though he's part of the Democrats' moderate roadkill caucus, the senator from 25th Legislative District announced today that he will vote for marriage equality. With Kastama's support, supporters are now within one vote of legalizing marriage for committed same sex couples.

Kastama is getting shit from the other side, sources in Olympia tell us. Organized right-wing churches are bombarding him with threats of political retribution. We need to show him that there are more folks who support his position than oppose it. So go ahead, no matter where you live in Washington:

Email him. Call him at (360) 786-7648. Thank him.

I emailed him and, for good measure, I went to his site for his AG campaign and tried to donate, but either the site is malfunctioning or the instructions are confusing. I never could finish officially registering.

Assume, though, that the problem is mine, and Sloggers who want to show their support can donate a few bucks to his campaign to help offset the threat from NOM.

@7 Not your fault, he cannot accept campaign contributions untill sessions ends, either can other legislators. So will have to remember their names after March...or whenever it ends.

@ 7--The reason you cannot process a donation is because there is a donation freeze while the legislature is in session. Once session is over the ability to donate will be active on the page www.jimkastama.com
