2012 Man-of-the-People Newt Gingrich Hates City Dwellers

Wonkette points out that Newt Gingrich is starting to cloak himself in Sarah Palin's "Real America" bullshit:

Those who, you know, live in high-rise apartment buildings writing for fancy newspapers in the middle of town after they ride the metro, who don’t understand that for most Americans the ability to buy a home, to have their own property, to have a sense of belonging is one of the greatest achievements of their life, and it makes them feel like they are good solid citizens…

This guy. This fucking guy. This fucking idiot guy. The only guys dumber than this fucking idiot guy are the fucking idiot guys who actually swallow his bullshit. Newt "Half-A-Million-Dollar-Credit-Account-at-Tiffany's" Gingrich is the epitome of the self-entitled, latte-swilling, pompous pseudo-intellectual he's railing against. One of the only upsides of a race between Mitt "Quarter-of-a-Billionaire" Romney, Gingrich, and Ron "We-Are-All-Austrians-Now" Paul, I thought, was that they wouldn't try to pull this populist anti-coastal hatefest bullshit. Way to lower the bar, Newt. I hope Romney attempts the populist schtick later this year; he's the only man on Earth who could make Newt look like an authentic redneck.

@3: We do need to start referring to him as "Professor Gingrich." It would be hilarious if the other Republican candidates picked that up. "Oh, is that what you learned when you were a man-of-the-people college professor?" This crew of idiots reminds me of the old description of the Soviet Union: that it would be a macabre joke if it didn't have nuclear weapons. The Republican presidential candidates would be a macabre joke if one of them didn't stand a good chance of becoming president.

and even if there was a reporter who fit that stereotype ("the metro"? are these parisian reporters?), they probably do understand that home ownership is important to americans. after all, we've all been indoctrinated with that message for our entire lives.

@13 Newts are not reptiles. Gingrich *IS* trying to live up to his name with this speech, though: He's trying to be an amphibian who can exist in his natural environment of the wealthy/powerful while pretending to care for the interests of the other 99% who get no real concern from most levels of our government (or, admittedly, most other governments...)

I think we know now why Gingrich hates the city:

It's because he was caught out by his wife when he was fucking his staffer in his wife's bedroom in the city.

Newt, Newt, don't hate on the city. After all, it must have been a hell of a lot easier to fuck your staffer in your wife's bedroom in the city for six years than it would have been to fuck your staffer in your wife's bedroom in the suburbs. Smaller carbon footprint, too.
