SuttonBeresCuller's Work in Progress, the Video

Posted by on Mon, Jan 16, 2012 at 1:18 PM

Rodrigo Valenzuela, whose own photographs are on display right now at Joe Bar, sent me a link to the recently finished video documentation of SuttonBeresCuller's month-and-a-half installation/residency at Cornish last year, Work in Progress. Every day, they'd build a three-dimensional structure out of 2x4s, drywall, and paint. The next day they'd come in and change it, building something else. Much are the materials were harvested from past projects, and the circular track you see around the edges of the room is a track for a camera to move around and capture what happens. You'll see the show from start to finish—although what traditionally resembles a "finish" happens at the end of each day, while by the show's close, everything is in a pile, onlookers standing with their arms folded (what is it about looking at art that makes us fold our arms?) and considering the rubble.
