I Need a Visual Art Intern

Posted by on Thu, Jan 12, 2012 at 9:34 AM

Is it you? I have so much love (and unpaid work for which you're overqualified) to give.

Apply here.*

*Because there is sometimes confusion over this, I'm not referring to a graphic artist intern. I'm referring to an intern for an art critic, so a writer's intern.

I'm absolutely sure that since the Stranger is not able to pay it's employees, there will no longer be any posts about any of the following topics:

* Attacks on the state minimum wage.
* Proposals for a living wage.
* Wage disputes for Amazon warehouse employees.
* Income disparity.

I appreciate that the Stranger is cognizant of business realities and will take such realities to heart when considering future posts.

We're in agreement. Right? Right?

No shit.

It's not like Tim Keck is hurting. Washington State minimum wage is a whopping $9.04. My god. You'd go bankrupt paying that, Keck.

The real problem is this: Unpaid internships virtually insure that only rich kids with rich parents that can support them will enter the professional classes. Especially creative businesses.

"Please, no flakes. Really. No, I'm serious."

I'm sure finding a non-flake is harder than it looks!

Yeah, eight hours a week for three months at the minimum wage is $940. I think The Stranger can afford that.
