The Republican Party Starts Falling in Line Behind Mitt Romney

Posted by on Wed, Jan 11, 2012 at 12:07 PM

Last night, Sean Hannity chastised Rick Perry for attacking Mitt Romney for engaging in "vulture capitalism." Hannity said Perry sounded "like something from Occupy Wall Street." Meanwhile, Rush Limbaugh attacked Newt Gingrich for attacking Romney's Bain record, too:

Capitalism is under assault here in the Republican Party,” said Limbaugh. “I’m telling you, I don’t care how much you love Newt, that is not good. Capitalism being under assault in the Republican Party is not gonna help us at all. It’s what Michael Moore does.”

The party's not entirely aligned yet—Limbaugh's got a lot of backpedaling to do on his teeny, tiny little bicycle before he can get past his "Romney is not a conservative" rant of a few months back—but you can see it happening. I'm willing to bet that by the end of the month, the conservative media machine will be claiming that Mitt Romney is now, and has always been, the conservative messiah.

Shyeah, they're afraid that the mud currently being flung around by Newt and co. is going to stick around after the nomination's been locked up. At least, I think it's mud, but with Santorum you never can tell.

Quite so. And then let the birther, Muslim, Kenyan Colonialist narrative begin.

I almost want this to be over so we don't have to hear about these clowns again until November.

Plus, there's an important vote in May during the North Carolina primary for a constitutional amendment that would ban not only gay marriage but also gay civil unions. It has a lot harder chance of winning if the Republican contest is long over and less Republicans are drawn to vote.

I thought attacking that POS Romney over a statement so fundamentally capitalist was weird to begin with. Republicans against the free market?

The fun part is just imagining what the vile emails and vids and hit pieces sent to SC look like this year.

Remember, McCain won SC as the presumed nominee over that upstart Bush, right?

So what if he's a conservative messiah? He has to appeal to the middle. It's going to be interesting to see how he zooms from hard right to the center after his nomination.

And so the complete erasure of Ron Paul as a viable candidate continues. His stance on the military is obviously a deal-breaker for them but it's truly bizarre how they seem incapable of acknowledging the guy even exists.
