Some are showered with praise for abstaining from acts that they have no desire to engage in.

Yes. Praise should come rooted in something you have worked to achieve, in my opinion. There is no honor from accepting such praise, but silly acting people accept it and foolish acting people offer it.

Ain't it the truth, Ruth... Hey - I saw the "Hipster Zealots" thing on Andrew Sullivan's blog today. Made me sick to my stomach. It looks more like white supremacy to me... they had the nerve to attack you, Dan and others who are fighting for our legal protections and civil rights. This is the new evil - and it's young, "hip" preachers who clearly have ZERO idea what really goes on in the world.

Oh, that reminds me - I have not smoked crack today. You may congratulate me now for my fortitude.

And some people are showered with praise for actively engaging in activities that are selfish and destructive. DON'T PUNISH SUCCESS LOL

The Virgin Tebow still on your mind today, eh, Dan?

Mine too.

Hey, if that's a shot at my #1st place "Did Not Die Climbing Mount McKinley by Not Climbing It" trophy, then you best watch your words. I spent a lifetime not considering that climb and that trophy is very dear to me!

LOL, Tebow.

Does he really have a girlfriend, or is that part made up too?

@2: "they had the nerve to attack you, Dan and others who are fighting for our legal protections and civil rights."

Libertarians hide behind phrases like "LIBERTY" and "FREEDOM" but have very little interest in seeking both for US citizens. It's the dumbest elements of American exceptionalism put into politics.

Yeah he has a girlfriend. She's in Canada though so you wouldn't know her...

Nice that you have the ability to judge a person by just looking at a 30 second YouTube clip and interpreting a few hand gestures. I'm sure you wouldn't find it bigoted or hateful to be judged in the same manner.

@10: Get a grip, Tebow is championed while others who pull the same religious stunts are trashed and punished. http://instaputz.blogspot.com/2012/01/wh…

Here's a fun quote: "If Tim Tebow were a devout Muslim, he wouldn't be doing this. He wouldn't be dropping to his knees in "thankful" prayer before plays are even over, like he did while his receiver as still running toward the end zone Sunday (and did again seconds after the play was over). He wouldn't be hitting people over the head with Jebus in every press conference and public appearance.

Because Muslim athletes don't do that. Neither do Catholic athletes, Jewish athletes, Buddhist athletes or anyone else. Only - ONLY - evangelical Christians, who have never endured the slightest discrimination in this country (being stopped from making the entire country live by your rules is NOT the same as being discriminated against, as much as they say it is).

So the interesting question about Tim Tebow is - why do you suppose that is?

And for the Tebowites who are sure to show up any second now and "explain" to me why Tebowmania makes my skin crawl, let me preempt with some borrowed words: What I hate about Tim Tebow isn't him; it's you.

(Not that that'll stop them, I know.)"

@5: Didn't you hear that Tebow's not a virgin anymore? He fucked Pittsburgh.

Given a choice, there are certain people I would never abstain from showering with...

@12: Devin Hester, the RIDICULOUS return man for the Bears, also brings his religion onto the field. Before every return, he touches his head and then his toes and points to the sky. In an interview, he explained that this pre-play ritual of his is him asking God to bless him from head to toe. He does this only before returns, not when he's out as a receiver, and he only mentioned its meaning when he was asked about it.
A lot less intrusive, no?

Indeed, I've never engaged in homosexual sex. The pope should praise me for my moral fortitude.

More rarely, I've never drunk alcohol. The stuff never appealed to me, and the few times I tried I really didn't like the taste. So I never had to fight an urge to drink alcohol. I never wanted to. Does that mean I get to claim more fortitude than an AAA member who's been sober for a year?

Nope.

By the way, who's Tim Tebow?

Dan, congratulations on going another day without having premarital sex with a woman.

Personally, I'm patting myself on the back for not breaking the biblical laws about not lying with a man as I lie with a woman.

@15: "A lot less intrusive, no?"

Right, I would just say it's between me and God, but then again, I suppose there's a reason why I'm not a believer.

I can see that applying to the ex-gay advocates, in that they appear to be bisexual and simply wanting to have more heterosexual relationships.
