Gay-Marriage Debate Will Be Live-Streamed!!

Posted by on Mon, Jan 9, 2012 at 11:38 AM

You asked, you begged, you demanded, you threatened to do it yourself with an iPhone. And now, you'll be delighted to know that the Event of the Cenozoic Era will, in fact, be all up in your internet!

Of course we're talking about the same-sex marriage debate on January 18 at Town Hall, which sold out in less than five hours last week. But the Seattle Channel is going to live stream the wholemosexual thing. So tune into Slog to see pro-marriage equality Dan Savage and Representative Laurie Jinkins (D-27) face off against anti-gay-marriage attorney Stephen Pidgeon and Pastor Ken Hutcherson. It's moderated by KIRO's Dave Ross beginning at 7:30 p.m. on January 18.

Plus, you can still get a seat inside Town Hall if you're determined. Anyone with a ticket who who doesn't claim his or her seat by 7:15 p.m. will lose their seat, and their spots will be given up to folks waiting in line. So show up early for your shot at a seat.

Thank GOD!!! I didn't want to go stand in line hoping for rush tickets. I would have, though...

Why don't you have a pro-gay minister up there? You know those pastors are going to be quoting chapter and verse to counter every legal and ethical point that is made by Laurie and Dan. And I'm sure neither of them can quote scripture like the pastors can. It's a missed opportunity, and what happens every single time pastors are invited to rail against gay marriage on a panel with marriage supporters.

Quick correction-

"So tune into Slog to see pro-marriage equality Dan Savage and Representative Laurie Jinkins (D-27) face off against anti-gay-marriage attorney Stephen Pidgeon and Pastor Ken Hutcherson."

Should read- So tune into Slog to see 'gays as priviledged citizens with the right to redefine society' Dan Savage and Representative Laurie Jinkins (D-27) face off against upstanding supporters of families and marriage attorney Stephen Pidgeon and Pastor Ken Hutcherson.

No thanks needed. Just doing my bit to help out.

So glad it will be live streamed. My church (pro marriage equality) is going to host a get together to watch it. We'll be cheering Dan on the whole way. Well, I'll be cheering him in person because I got a ticket.

Funny thing Seattleblues. Some of us Christians actually think hate and descrimination are bad things. We think God should do the judging and we should do as Jesus said and show each other love, support, tolerance, justice and equality. You know, treat others the way we want to be treated.

I'd rather see it pantsless, so now that it's livestreaming I can let my ticket go to whoever shows up. Thanks for setting this up!

@4, 8 - Maybe those of us without tickets should get together and have a pantsless debate-watching party.

Oh SB. You are so desperate I can smell your fear sweat from here. Best get together with poor banned Period Troll and decide what nice wedding gift you'll be getting for Dan and Terry come the day they tie the knot here in your home state!

Indeed, indeed SB! Time to put your money where your mouth is since those two "upstanding supporters of marriage and families" seemed to have chickened out. Hell, I'll even kick in for a can antiperspirant for you.

Yeah SB, truly time to put it on the line. Come out from behind your keyboard and try and spout your nonsense in front of a live audience.

@6 - What "privileges" would be conferred upon homosexual Americans if the state were to recognize same-sex marriages that are not currently conferred upon heterosexual Americans by current marriage law? Or, conversely, what empirically demonstrable civic utility is fulfilled by opposite-sex marriage that would not be fulfilled by same-sex marriages? Please be specific.
