Deep Thought

Posted by on Mon, Jan 9, 2012 at 4:22 PM

I bet if that anonymous Papa John's employee who wrote "Lady Chinky Eyes" on a woman's receipt identified himself, he could become 2012's Joe the Plumber. I can see Republicans rallying around the guy: "He's a real straight-shooter! He calls them as he sees them. All this political correctness mumbo-jumbo has just got to stop." Hell, the conservative persecution complex practically writes itself at this point.

That former Papa John's cashier should join the Seattle PD. He'ed fit right in with Shandy Cobane and the boys.

I think the report I read earlier said the clerk, who got fired, is a sixteen-year-old girl.

The supervisors at the restaurant seemed to think it should have been a big deal. If it's not, then would they be fine with customers coming in and using racist, sexist, homophobic slurs on the employees? I expect they wouldn't be.

Hey, you're a "reporter" (convulsive laughter)...why don't you find out if a 16 year old girl in Manhattan who works at the counter of a Papa John's is a registered republican.

The term "chinky eyes" isn't an artifact of racist white culture.

Of course I'm not suggesting that all blame for every woe in the world doesn't eventually need to lay at the feet of white males.

@6: Okay, wise guy, where does the term come from?

@8- I've heard it used to refer to the stoned squint some people get. So you see, it's just as innocuous as the term "nigger lip" when applied to drooling on a joint.

Which is to say, racist as hell.

I knew that if Republicans hadn't aleady found -- and canonized -- the "chinky eyes" dealer, it meant the Papa John's workers wasn't (1)white, (2) straight and/or (3)male.

I'm down with the street and it seems that there was / is a renewed popularity if the term chinky among certain sectors of the urban youf. The younger ones don't even think of it as pejorative or racist. It is simply an adjective, as in "Baby you're foxy as hell; you got them chinky eyes".

It happens. Call me "dude wide eyes" if you want. Not sure that Papa John's employees are expectd to have the highest level of diversity training available.
