Officer Who Allegedly Stole Drugs Found Shot

Posted by on Thu, Jan 5, 2012 at 2:06 PM

The Seattle police officer accused of stealing drugs instead of logging it as case evidence was hospitalized this morning for an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Via Komo:

Police spokesman Sean Whitcomb confirmed Rick F. Nelson, 50, of Issaquah was arrested early Thursday morning. Jail records indicate the officer was booked into jail, then released within a half hour.

Approximately six hours after he was released, Nelson was found shot, according to sources. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition.

Guess he didn't like the proposition of spending any real time in jail, huh? The hipocrisy never ceases to amaze me.

@1: Yeah, clearly this is a well adjusted and mentally together individual who is being hypocritical in his positions regarding crime and punishment. Not just a statistically inevitable mentally ill and/or drug addicted guy who happens to be a cop, and who totally freaked and tried to kill himself for emotional rather than rational reasons.

@5--yes, depending on the charge and your criminal history. The majority of people are booked and released.

The Times reported that he died. Probably the route I would have taken in his situation. A crack addicted ex-cop probably wouldn't fare well in the joint.

A reminder please for a little compassion. This was a guy with a wife and two kids.

You know what sucks more than addiction? Hypocritical cops. How many people did this dude arrest with his eye on a rocky prize? Sympathy? I have none.

One always hopes it'll be Chuckie or Goldylocks that kills themselves, but this is OK, too.

Good riddance and thanks for saving taxpayer money. Another shining example from SPD. Too bad more of them don't drive like Ken Saucier.
