Newt Gingrich, Historian, on Why He Divorced His First Wife

Posted by on Tue, Dec 27, 2011 at 12:28 PM

Everything Newt Gingrich says about his first divorce is a lie. And the truth is uglier and more awful than you suspected:

"He (Gingrich) said, 'You know and I know that she's not young enough or pretty enough to be the wife of a president,' " Carter, who now lives in South Carolina, told CNN recently, relating the conversation he had with Gingrich the day Gingrich revealed he was filing for divorce. Carter served as treasurer of Gingrich's first congressional campaigns.

See? He is a historian! That is the exact same reason why FDR divorced Eleanor. Lately, Gingrich has been saying that his wife divorced him, but CNN says Gingrich, who Republicans say is maybe the brightest mind in their party, filed for the divorce, claiming "the marriage of the parties is irretriebably (sic) broken."

Oh, it's even worse. The Dec. 25 LA Times story also notes that Newt carefully hid his 4 million dollar book deal from his wife, to screw her (figuratively) one last time. She was conned into giving up her claim to his earnings, money he earned while they were married.

See, he's a family values kinda guy. was concerned the long-term value of his family so he traded in his wife for a younger, prettier model. Twice.

I guess he never stopped to consider that *he* is too ugly to be president.

Did everyone see the rebuttal to his 'no work ethic' bit written by a young man a week or so back. The final line was "you look like someone poured mashed potatoes into a suit".

The most tragic part of all this is that Paul is right--Newt probably is the brightest member of this crop of candidates.

@9: Yep. He and Sarah Palin are made for each other. They'd make the dream ticket of psychopathy.

Seeing the whole story, it appeared obvious that he's got the "entitlement mentality" he loves to decry when it comes to his marriages...he's always trading in for a younger model. I think that's part and parcel of many of the rethuglican's problem with Michelle Obama. Sure, she's a beautiful woman (not according to them, but according to reality), and she certainly dresses the part of a first lady, but she's not exclusively a cute bimbo cheerleader for her husband. I haven't the slightest doubt she can match wits with Barack, but more importantly, if he dumped her for a younger model, or made some comment about her having some serious curves (woman has had 2 babies and is in amazing shape in general), she'd raise holy hell. Far too real for these mouth-breathing sexist douche-canoes.

I didn't previously know that Newt started banging his first wife, Frances, when he was 16 and she was his 23-year-old high school math teacher. Um...didn't Mary Kay LeTourneau go to prison for that?

@14, the always confused, seldom ever accurate, Fnarf,

Negative, Mary Kay went to jail for a number of reasons, beginning with she was 33 when she began consorting with an 11-year-old (major difference, there, not that I would ever defend the Newtie dood on anything).

There are chickens in it. Everybody loves chickens!
It also ends with a splash of Santorum!
