O Stranger Tree, O Stranger Tree...

Posted by on Sat, Dec 24, 2011 at 12:09 PM

Slog tipper Morgan informs us that someone has gone ahead and constructed a Christmas tree almost entirely out of dirty words:

440 copies of The Stranger is all it took to build the world’s tallest origami Christmas Tree. OK, maybe not the world’s tallest, but it’s probably pretty close. Livemocha, a local company. took it upon themselves to fold and assemble 440 copies of the newspaper to create a magnificent masterpiece- and the Saki consumed along the way probably helped.

I'd like to see someone try this with the Huffington Post. You can find a video of the assembly right here, and another photo after the jump.

Okay now. Paul's done his part to amuse the masses on this the holiest of Eves. Where's the rest of the Stranger staff on this? C'mon Goldy, you had the temerity to make a whole Slog post about how you don't do jack on Christmas and now you're leaving us hanging? Give us anything - pictures of food, movie reviews from films made years ago! I mean, this is the online community which is amused by pictures of shopping carts, for Christ's sake. Let's do this, people! Don't make me snap my whip again!

Instead of using fewer copies of the paper per layer as the tree got taller you should have made the triangles more acute/narrower.
And it would also help to tighten the amount of overlap between layers.

That looks hideous.....

Thank you Paul for giving me one of my small pleasures - a photo that shrinks when it says 'Click to Enlarge'. Merry Christmas!

@6 You're pretty darn funny as a slight drunk. : )

This has the makings of a wonderful thread. I'd encourage #4 there to have a few more drinks & keep it lively. And the homophobic troll reveals himself to be an origami afficianado - who'd have ever guessed!? Merry christmas all!
