If You Want to Freak Yourself Out on Christmas

Posted by on Sat, Dec 24, 2011 at 10:16 AM

Just listen to the most paranoid Christmas carol over and over: "The Carol of the Bells." Aaaaaaaaaah!

While staring at blue presents.

But it's so beautiful! Paranoid? Eye of the beholder, I suppose. Lovely pre-christian Ukrainian chant, repurposed. Just a great, great song.

@2 Yep, mine too.

It's the only Xmas song that I never get tied of - and when you consider that these days the Xmas season lasts for about three months, that's saying something.

I could see where it would make a good chant at a witch burning.

@7 It does have a sense of Paganism about it. Like the others, my fave Christmas song.

Merry Christmas, Scary Tyler Moore

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9E0CzDCJ…

I may be wrong, but I think the song is about a swallow bringing a good omen for the coming harvest in the new year with its arrival in the snowy season. Perhaps our dear Mr. Ank. can has more information bring educated in Ukranian culture and language.

Best wishes in the new year!
