Watch Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin in the Teaser for Game Change

Posted by on Wed, Dec 21, 2011 at 5:33 PM

Ed Harris as John McCain! Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin! I can't wait until this made-for-HBO movie comes out in March.

All right, Sloggers: Who's got HBO? I'm going to need to come over and watch this thing at your house.

Moore absolutely nails it. As for Harris, he has just extinguished a lustful flame that burned within me for decades.

I was there, during that speech, it was terrifying.

Moore, of course, looks fantastic as Palin.

As much as I love Ed Harris, I'm having a hard time buying him as McCain. Although I can't really think of another actor that would do any better off the top of my head.

Though this may end up on Netflix in a few years, I doubt Hulu will be carrying it in any short order. HBO has left those who don't have or want all the cable channels a few annoying options, and that is to torrent their content illegally, find a friend who will let you watch with them, or wait until it is released on DVD for purchase or rental.

I would pay HBO money directly, for the privilege of streaming their stuff from their website without buying a big cable package (you can stream HBO content online, only if you are already a cable subscriber), but because that isn't an option I guess I'll have to follow your example and find a friend to mooch off. Or wait.

I guess nobody would ever consider me to play Palin, but if I were ever offered a job portraying, say, Rick Santorum, I think I would sooner hammer some nails through my dick. I can't imagine immersing myself in that kind of sleaze and stupid so thoroughly as to be able to channel it. Playing fictional bad guys is one thing, but this is just too... real.

I don't know how I feel about Ed Harris as McCain, except that it kinda creeps me the fuck out.

One thing I can tell you for sure, though, is that between this and Tina Fey we have definitely proved that Sarah Palin is so fake that it is not only possible, but repeatedly possible, to construct additional fake Palins so convincing that you really couldn't tell them apart from the real thing under casual scrutiny.

Whoa. Julianne Moore is uncanny. She really needs to host SNL as soon as possible so she and Tina Fey can have a Palin-off. (She's already had a recurring role on 30 Rock, so we know Lorne has her number. Get on it, people!)

John Malkovich could play McCain, kind of like in his role in Of Mice and Men.

@5: Michael Hogan.

I can't decide if this is going to ruin my Julienne Moore fantasy ...or make it much better.

Having lived through the original, why the fuck would anyone be interested in watching the passion play of the same thing? Wasn't once awful enough?

I thought for sure they would cast Michael Hogan, who played Col. Tigh on Battlestar Galactica.

Looks great but I'm not going to add nearly $100 onto my cable bill to watch one show on HBO. I guess I will watch it when it finally makes it to DVD. And with HBO that will be sometime in 2019....

@5 and others, you're totally flipped. I said "Holy shit" at the first two shots of Harris, because that was just scary. The turn from profile at :10 was like watching one of those face morphs from the Michael Jackson video. The grimace and shifting weight with one dropped shoulder at :16 was pure McCain. He may not LOOK exactly like him (styling does that for Moore doing Palin), but he has mannerisms and body language down perfectly, and that makes a more believable imitation.

Moore is a great Palin but I could see through it. I think Tina Fey's imitation is better, but I'll reserve final judgment for after viewing.

I got chills too, @6.

Chills. solarmovie.eu is bound to have it online even before HBO, not that I advocate for that kind of mischief.

I love Julianne Moore, but I think she's playing it too serious. One of the things that made Sarah Palin so terrifying as a candidate is that she always has this casual, petty demeanor, no matter what the setting is

I will never forget that speech, I think of it as the conception of the teabaggers. And an extreme turn for the republican party, even in the aftermath of Bush. It was such a disgusting, ugly, insulting, bitter, fake, shallow-minded speech that I had to find it online and burn it to a CD.

Julianne Moore totally looks like her!!! Fucking A, I've always liked JM, now even more so. Nailin' Palin, that's what I'm talking about
