Aww, He Thinks He's People

Posted by on Tue, Dec 20, 2011 at 12:29 PM

Mitt Romney read the Top Ten List on The Late Show with David Letterman last night. It proved to be a reminder that traits like "humor," "warmth," and "self-awareness" are not Mitt Romney's strengths:

Seriously, what's wrong with this guy? It was a pre-taped segment, so unless the producers were out to make him look as robotic as possible—always a possibility with Letterman, to be sure—we have to assume that these are the best takes Romney could give. I've seen livelier urinal pucks.

Not defending his performance at all, but from the video, it does seem like that was done live - he's interacting with Dave, and pausing when the audience applauds.

He's just so desperately clinging to that false face he's had to assume for so long...

When his vicious temper peeks out sometimes as he snarls at a journalist or concerned citizen or something, that's closer to The Real Romney...

Mustn't let it show! Mustn't! Mustn't!!

That man lives in the "uncanny valley".

That was awkward.

That was so done live. Romney tried to run away when Dave is shaking his hand at the end. Sadly it never cuts back to Romney to see his reaction when Letterman cracks wise.

Did Mr. Romney get trapped overnight in Disneyland's "Hall of Presidents" as a youth? That would explain so much.

He looks supremely uncomfortable. You can tell he's thinking, "I don't think this is such a good idea. If I don't get a bounce from this, I'm definitely firing some people."

@6 -- When I steal that joke in real life I will be sure to give 'somebody from Slog's comments' credit. That's gold.

I have absolutely no respect for either of these hacks.

I thought Willard was alright. But Dave had the funniest line with, "And how did you do on the back nine?"
