Pat Robertson Regrets U.S. Christians Lack the Conviction of Islamic Jihadists

Posted by on Mon, Dec 19, 2011 at 2:16 PM

This weekend, this skit appeared on Saturday Night Live:

On today's broadcast of The 700 Club, televangelist Pat Robertson issued his response:

“If this had been a Muslim country and they had done that, and had Muhammad doing that stuff, you would have found bombs being thrown off, and bodies on the street...We need more religious faith in our society, we’re losing our moral compass in our nation.”

Merry Christmas! (And thank you, RawStory.)

Because: faith = murdering anyone who doesn't believe in your fairy-tale godhead.

Two wrongs make a right-wing mass killing. Two thousand years teaches them nothing. Absolutely nothing. We're free here. And they hate that.

So the lesson we take from this is... what? That the only thing that differentiates jihadi terrorism from senile dementia is a functioning male anatomy?

So... because countries dominated by Islamists exist under a theocracy without freedom of speech, we should eliminate freedom of speech in the United States?

What am I missing here?

We need more religious faith? Wasn't the point of this skit the fact that people try to insert their religious faith into everything? 83% of the U.S. population profess to be religious (as of 2008). Either morality is directly linked to religion and religion is poison, or morality is not linked to religion and they need a new argument.

Actually, this just goes to show that Robertson really is a Talibanist at heart. He wants Christians to be as bloodthirsty and violent as the worst terrorist, and to commit murder anytime someone dares to poke a little fun at fundamentalist Christianity.

A thousand years ago, a guy like Robertson (Pat the Hermit?) could raise a huge army and march them to their deaths against the Seljuk Turks.

So I guess we've made some progress.

Christian fundies don't get outraged about depictions of Jesus the way Muslim fundies get outraged about depictions of Mohammed because Christianity doesn't worry about idolatry the way Islam does.

Does anyone still watch SNL? I know no 700 Club viewer does (it starts 3 hours after they go to bed), and everyone else old enough to vote doesn't give a damn about it.
