"Cooter Is Forever, Man"

Posted by on Mon, Dec 19, 2011 at 9:02 AM

This is the most entertaining interview I've heard in a while, it runs just under four minutes, and you should go listen to it immediately: Ben Jones, former Dukes of Hazzard actor and then US congressman, on Newt Gingrich, who he ran against in 1994. Gingrich "beat him like a rented mule," he says.

He called me 'scurrilous.' And I thought, scurrilous? That's a weird— that sounds awful. That's an awful-sounding word. But what it means is 'profane.' Now, I gotta admit, I can be profane. I cuss. A reporter from the Atlanta paper said, "What do you think? He called you scurrilous." And I said, "F him and the horse he rode in on."

He makes Gingrich sound like the most stuck-up, obnoxious jerk ever, and Jones sounds like someone I want to drink with around a campfire as soon as possible. Listen! You won't be sorry.

Not to crap all over an otherwise excellent point, but that was the argument people made for George W. Bush too--that you'd want to have a beer with him. I don't want someone in elected office because I'd like to have a beer with him or her. I want them in elected office because they're, you know, competent.

That said, I don't want Gingrich anywhere near any elected office ever. That dude's fucking insane.

Yes! But, but, the way pronounced "quixotic" makes me love him!! I can't help it!
