Boring Report: Jackhammering Edition!!

[Click to enlarge. The details are neat.]

That backhoe with jackhammer attachment has been jackhammering those rounded concrete walls into smaller concrete chunks all morning. Nonstop. Since 7:00 am!

Well, not quite nonstop. Every 20 seconds or so, he'd pause, long enough for anyone living in the large apartment building across the street to think, "Sweet glory be, he's done, maybe I'll get to sleep just a little longer." And then—BAM-BAM-BAM-BAM-BAM-BAM-BAM-BAM-BAM-BAM-BAM-BAM-BAM-BAM-BAM-BAM-BAM-BAM-BAM!

You know, they might be violating their contract with the city. Call the planning department and complain.

@2,

The city was considering lifting all noise restrictions on this project, allowing them to work throughout the night. So, no, they're probably not violating anything. Normal noise ordinances allow for that kind of racket 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.

@4: ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! They were actually considering letting them work all night?

Ok, then. Wow.

They're making noise at legal times, unlike the drunk idiots who like to make their noise at 2am.

I'll trade a day or two of jackhammering for the constant barking of poorly-owned dogs...

I'm curious as to why they are smashing up otherwise useable concrete cylinder parts. Do they not need them? Overbought? Using some sort of squirt-in fast-set cement now? Need concrete "filler" or ground support so we don't get a sinkhole? Why smash up already constructed things?

@11

could be that they are defective. i'd have to believe it's easier to haul away a lot of little pieces of concrete, that settle nicely into a dump truck, than to try and get round shapes into a rectangle without a lot of wasted space.
