I miss the long summer days Seattle gets, but they're barely consolation for walking to and from work in the dark.

Time for a drink!

The thing that amazes me is not that this happens; it's that, after several decades on this planet, it STILL surprises me when it does.

Pop some vitamin D, pour yourself a stiff drink and stay calm. Everything is going to be OK.

When I moved to Florida temporarily the constant light year round really freaked me out for the first couple years (Miami maintains nearly a 12 hour day year round). I don't mind the early darkness, I enjoy looking at the city lights while I bike home.

Tis only a matter of time before the White Walkers wake from their wintry prison and march with their legions of the dead across the icy wastes in the darkness of the long night.

Life gets so much better once you start following the 'dark outside = OK to drink' rule.

I hate winter. I know Seattle City Light and Puget Sound Energy get a big kick out of hoovering my dough into their coffers from December through February. Sweaters, my dawn simulator lamp, Kahlua and hot cocoa are my comforts.

I love it! Especially after it rains and the puddles reflect the city lights, you get to walk within a postcard. Plus an Islay malt tastes so much better. :-)

Even worse up here in Bellingham, David. Hopefully like every year, spring arrives just before I finalize my plans to move to California.

No, no it's not. Dusk starts after civil twilight ends. Sunset is at 4:18pm, civil twilight ends at 4:54 PM. Please use

In the future for all of your twilight calculations.

I have an elaborate justification that keeps me from sticking my head in the oven: Every year the days grow short during the holidays. These short days encourage people to put lovely holiday lighting on their homes and businesses. The lovely holiday lighting gets us through Winter Solstice, and New Year's. Shortly after New Year's, the days start to get longer.

Therefore, if we didn't have the early sunsets in the wintertime, we wouldn't be able to enjoy the lovely holiday lighting, right?

Thank God the oven is electric......

@18, and be grateful that, due to our high latitude, we actually enjoy MORE light than our southern neighbors, because our civil twilight and dawn periods are much longer. Anyone who's been to anyplace near the equator has noticed how sunset proceeds to full darkness almost immediately, because the sun is dropping straight down. We get that extra bit of semi-usable light that just goes on and on, even though our total time of sunrise-to-sunset equals theirs.

As it is every time of night about this time.

Is pot use really that prevalent among Stranger staff? I'm guessing (and hoping) "yes", and where do I apply?
