Barack Obama and his daughters went book-shopping on Small Business Saturday, spending some time at delightful Washington D.C. indie bookstore Kramerbooks. Here's what they bought:

The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever by Jeff Kinney
Tails by Matthew Van Fleet
Descent into Chaos by Ahmed Rashid
The Tiger’s Wife by Tea Obreht
The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster
The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz
Zen Shorts by Jon Muth

While I do not have personal experience with the Wimpy Kid series, I have to say that this is a pretty decent shopping list, if you're looking for Christmas gifts.

UPDATE 4:58 pm: Slog reader (and very good Twitterer) Gladcow vouches for the Wimpy Kid books. She says her kids "re-read them quite a bit." So there you go: The Obamas have impeccable book-buying tastes.
