But King 5 had the story a week ago. The hairdresser, who's had a business in Rainier Valley for more than 30 years, was walking on the evening of Tuesday, November 15, when...
...three teenagers came up to Vega from behind.
"He said that they just kept beating me and I was unconscious for 30 to 45 minutes,” said Vega’s niece, Melanie.
Vega was able to tell his family what happened before falling into a coma. He's now on life support.
"We are very much hoping for a miracle," said Vega’s sister Valentine.
We've put in a request with SPD for more details, and to confirm whether this incident on the SPD blotter is the same incident, and we'll follow up as soon as we find out more about the investigation and how the victim is doing. Sincere thanks to the anonymous Slog commenter(s) who rightly hounded us to get something up about this.

Is this Crime Beat now? I'm mystified by the competition underway among some of the commenters; "Oh you missed a black crime!" "Oh YOU missed a white crime!" At the end of the day that's hardly the important point on which to focus. That point is that this tragic story involved no white people and that, sadly, is why much of the mainstream media could give a damn. Stop counting points and focus on the game, people.

Andrew, stop misusing words, or using words you don't know the meaning of. A "mob" is a large, unruly group, intent on violence or vengence. We have not had a mob, black or white, in Seattle since the Rodney King verdict ( and no, I am not forgetting the WTO or the Occupy Protests, because those were crowds, not mobs). Why don't you use the word "gangs" instead? It's both more accurate and scarier-sounding, which I think is one of the things you're trying to get at.
Also, If you want to argue that black-on-white-or-Asian crime is under-reported on Slog, that's fine. But Slog is not a news source (and God help the poor soul who might regard it as one). It's mostly just a collection of Statlers and Waldorfs commenting on whatever topic rises to the attention of The Stranger's staff.

I read about this earlier on the King5 site. It happened 10 days ago, and I haven't seen any follow-up about Mr. Vega's condition or progress in the investigation to find the perps. Would appreciate hearing more on both of these.

Slog did block my tinyurl links. I can post that post without the links but not with them. Slog also has permanent blocks on certain words. It is not paranoia at all, just an easily-accomplished fact of technology that takes barely any effort, even from a stoned IT guy.

Even the leftiest of the left should acknowledge that if the accused were white, this would be national news as opposed to buried in the local media. With that being said, no matter the color or sexuality of those involved, it sucks that an innocent person is assaulted and those that did it are still on the loose.
