Short Film Fridays

Posted by on Fri, Nov 25, 2011 at 4:11 PM

This week's short film, "The Perfect Human," is by SJ Chiro, the director of "Howard From Ohio," a short film which was awarded a special jury prize at SIFF 2011. "The Perfect Human" is a beautiful remake of Jørgen Leth's "The Perfect Human." (Chiro is also my cousin.)

Feel free to send your short film to charles@thestranger.com

Matter of fact and wondrous. A poem. Moving.

"Around my left hand was shining a ring of hazy white flames..."

Seriously, though, this is a really great remake!

Another meditative and thoughtful work by SJ Chiro, I have never seen the original- must now seek it out. Bravo to our homegrown artists making really beautiful work in our city.

Your work always has such beautiful cinematography. Of course the stars only add to that beauty. I love how you push the envelope with your work, You make the viewer think, but always in a visually stunning way. Bravo!

I just adore this as a tonal inverse of the original. Where "perfect" had even a term to warn against fascism and contradict "human," Chiro floats the term, such that, as tenderness is to cheek, so perfect is to human, a compliment and a wabi-sabi hopefulness pervading the view of the species even as the Pacific Northwest beach fills the soundtrack. Yum, SJ Chiro!
