Shopper Pepper-Sprays Shoppers

Posted by on Fri, Nov 25, 2011 at 8:46 AM

It was an act of "competitive shopping"....

Black Friday got off to a dark start in the U.S. as several shootings, a bomb scare and a pepper-spraying shopper marred the annual post-Thanksgiving buying blitz.

The mayhem began late Thursday, as 15 people, including children, were injured after a woman reportedly pepper-sprayed other shoppers at a Los Angeles-area Walmart store.

A fire captain described Thursday night's incident as an act of "competitive shopping," according to the Los Angeles Times.

L.A. Fire Capt. James Carson told the newspaper the woman had armed herself with pepper spray to get the edge on her fellow shoppers at the store in the Porter Ranch neighbourhood.

People pepper-spray people.

Do parents with children, but without babysitters not have the right to shop in the middle of the night?

Black Friday is bad enough, but this overnight shopping idea is just loutish and stupid, attracting exactly the sort of low-brow cheapskate that would engage in brutish tactics like this.

Catalina @ 4: I thought Wal-Mart stayed opened all night so they didn't have people trampled to death...I think the problem is Wal-Mart in general.

It's not just Wal-Mart. Macy's, and something called Kohl's opened at midnight also. Doubtless there were others. But Wal-Mart seems to be the worst in terms of violent crimes. A bomb in a break room? They must have some real satisfied employees. I'm surprised they let them have a refrigerator.

@ 2, no one has the right to endanger their children, especially for such an ignoble cause.

11, Sure Matt, I really meant that parents should drag their children out at midnight to fight over a $25 Blu-ray player. I will be sure to put a "Matt I'm joking" footnote on my next sarcastic post, just to be sure you get it.

People pepper-spray people....

But guns shoot people. Hunh.

It's a good thing that those pepper-spray canisters don't have the same autonomy as those terrible shootin' irons!!!

@ 12, you should, but do it for everyone. I'm sure no one thought Mr. Stick in the Ass from Baltimore was being sarcastic.

It's about time we got rid of the old "You snooze, you lose" mentality. Snoozers should not be punished! Just get there early enough to pepper spray your competition to smithereens and you're fine. May the biggest canister win!

(Ugh)
