"Please don't Sylvia us."

Posted by on Fri, Nov 25, 2011 at 12:50 PM

Mere hours after this week's deeply disgruntled review of Sylvia at the Seattle Rep went live on the website, I received emails from theater people using "Sylvia" as a verb.

I'm not sure whether I should feel gratified or ashamed. Maybe a little bit of both.

But what's the verb mean? I didn't see it used as a verb in your review and the usage isn't clear here. Beat into submission? Humiliate? Feed dog kibble?

@2: When the blurb right under the title of the review says "[This play] is dog shit", most people think "Okay--what else is playing this week?" and move on.

I actually did not need your review this time to know that I didn't want to see this play. I am craving a good play, though. Any suggestions for tomorrow night?
