You know, when you run from an animal, you usually are inviting it to chase you.
But there's very little excuse for running from a turkey.

It's the worst horror movie ever. What is the turkey going to do? Peck her to death?

I love her delight in feeling freaked out. At a roadside petting zoo in Tillamook I once delighted my friends by fleeing in panic from a small rooster that seemed to be walking my way. I couldn't have been much older than thirty at the time.

Turkeys are terrifying. When I was three the neighbor's turkey was utterly enamored of me. He'd stand at the sliding glass door for hours at a time, giving me the eye and inflating his wattle every time I got near. My father had to beat him off me once with a 2 by 4 when I'd gone outside, thinking the coast was clear. He lay unconscious for a few hours while my father nervously pondered how he was going to explain to the neighbor that he'd killed their pet fowl (they were fundamentalist Christians, you see, and all life was sacred until it was on their dinner plates), but when Dad went outside again to bury the evidence, he was gone.

Tom Turkey never came by after that, but he'd occasionally fall off his perch on the neighbor's deck for no apparent reason.

@3, Was it at the Blue Heron? My parents would take me there from time to time when we would pass through Tillamook to visit Oceanside.

Which one has the bird brain?

@5, it was. We were en route to Oceanside, with its deliciously claustrophobia-inducing tunnel you crawl through to get to the other side of the beachfront promontory.

Turkeys (and roosters) have pretty big and damaging spurs, nothing to mess with.

It kinda reminds me of Blair Witch.

This is why it's bad to feed wildlife.

Not being an expert, I'm pretty sure that if the turkey were threatening, it would try to look bigger by doing a wing display. This looks like a turkey begging for food.

somehow calling her 'chicken' doesn't seem appropriate.

Turkeys can be vicious. The tom turkey at my aunt's farm would chase anyone who turned their back to him, and he'd peck very painfully if he caught up to them. I don't remember him drawing blood (through my jeans and work clothes), but it really HURT.

He made me supper paranoid. I remember constantly peering around so I could chase him away if he turned up while I was trying to do chores. He never fluffed his feathers while attacking, so I don't know if he was just playing a sick game or what.

Wave your arms at him? Make big threatening RARRRR RARRRR noises?

Once you've gotten in the car, try honking the horn?

It's not *that* difficult.
