Occupy Seattle is happy about last night's behavior by police. Here's their statement:

After coordinating with King County Metro and the SPD, Occupy Seattle organizers marched with over 1300 protestors to the University Bridge where they engaged in nonviolent civil disobedience to bring attention to the need for jobs to repair crumbling roadways and get citizens working. Everything went smoothly and Occupy Seattle is gratified that the Seattle Police Department seems to have changed it’s tactics in the wake of the excesses of November 15th, 2011.

By "everything went smoothly," I assume they mean it went smoothly for them. They weren't pepper sprayed willy-nilly like Tuesday (when the SPD went hog wild crazy with pepper spray on an old lady, a pregnant woman, and a priest). But the night's action didn't go smoothly for the mile of traffic that couldn't cross the University Bridge. The SPD may stand down for a while, but cops are going to have to figure out an alternative tactic if this keeps up—cops can and should respond to civil disobedience through the patient use of handcuffs. Then everyone wins: Protesters make a show of getting busted, drivers get through traffic, and cops don't assault octogenarian Jesus fetuses.
