Comedy Before Last Night I'd Never Heard a Funny, Sex Positive Joke About Trans Women

The joke was told last night during the 32nd Seattle International Comedy Competition semi-finals and to be fair, it wasn't so much about trans women than about the idiosyncrasies of transphobic men, but here's my point: The nine comedians left in this month-long competition are surprisingly funny—I say surprising because on the whole their material is more ambitious, more socially nuanced than what I've seen at previous competitions. In fact, most of them could kick the silly shit out of previous winners.

And they're performing their 10-minute sets nearly every night at venues around Puget Sound tonight through November 27. Next week is Thanksgiving. You have nothing else to do but face your family's judgment. Go check them out.

I saw Dave Foley a couple months back in Kirkland, and every comic that went before him made a joke or two about not being gay or being mistaken for gay or other jokes that start with "Now I'm not gay, but..." When Dave Foley got up on stage, the first thing he said was "I guess this is the part where I tell you I'm not gay?"
