Man, seems like just yesterday it was insisted upon that he was the savior of the world. Turns out it's more like he's a past selection of the Savior of the Month Club. The current selection is OWS.

OWS, which was spurned on in part by the Egyptian uprising, which was spurned on by the Tunisian uprising, which was spurned on in part by the leaked State Dept docs talking about how corrupt the Tunisian government was in Cablegate. No good deed, gus.

@2, that's a great point. Cultural cachet passes quick, but isn't everything: accomplishing something is. And I think "spurred" may be what you were reaching for. "Spurned" means "rejected".
