Is the 53% Made of Astroturf?

C. Spike Trotman posted this on Google Plus last week, but I didn't see it until just now, and it's important: At least one of the posts on We Are the 53%, the sad teabaggy response to We Are the 99%, was apparently faked, using a photo of a Spanish journalist who writes about political corruption in Nigeria. Now, if this debunking proves to be true—and the evidence certainly is compelling—either We Are the 53% felt that it was so important to have a black 53%-er that someone forged a single post, or they're having so much trouble finding people to post to their site that people affiliated with the site are faking a bunch of posts. I sent an e-mail to the makers of the site, and I'll let you know if/when they respond.

Every single thing about the Tea Party is astroturf. The entire movement was comprised of paid agitators rabble-rousing among racists and the terrified senile. This is an amusing bust and not all that surprising.

Some shitty blog has some dubious comments? What a shocker that is. I suppose because Charles has a weirdo who follows him around posting the N-word means that Slog is white-supremacist? This teapot isn't big enough to have a tempest in.

I love how many of these talk of going to school and making it without the help of handouts. Of course they presumably went to state colleges and got student loans. I guess state funded education is like the military and doesn't count as a government program.

Does We Are the 53% make any effort to vet submissions or is it a Facebook type deal where anybody can post something?

"I believe people choose what happens to them in their lives." Oh? Not an omniscient creator? You know, the one that gave us apple pie and the right to bear arms? These people congratulate themselves on the fact that they pay taxes and have managed to survive all these years without ANY guvmint assistance. Right, no help from the government ever. I guess if you get a debilitating disease not covered by your insurance, or you lack insurance because your company laid you off, or you become a victim of mortgage fraud, well, that's just your own damn problem and you need to just accept personal responsibility for your predicament. Maybe after you're dead, you won't have to share heaven with any smelly hippies or feminists.

They're full of shit either way, as @3 mentioned. Though this does make me feel slightly less depressed about ~52% of America.

@3,

Many of them loudly proclaim that they went to state colleges and graduated debt free. Of course, the main ways to graduate debt free are: government-subsidized financial aid or a free ride from mommy and daddy.

Many of the rest joined the military, but don't question how well they'd be doing in life had they not had access to that huge and relatively generous (from a poor and lower middle class perspective) government program.

Speaking of dubious numbers, how come the 99% only voted 35% for I-1098 WA state income tax?

Yeah, if you were in the military: congratulations! You participated in the largest government stimulus program ever. If you went to school--doesn't matter if it was private or state or if you are not a GI Bill recipient--it received funds and grants from the federal government without which people like you that had to work 36 hours a day without a vacation, etc. would not be able to go.

Splenda-Implant @ 9:
probably various reasons; misleading campaign ads, off year voter apathy, an "absolutely nuts" Ken Schram, Boeing, Amazon, The Washington Farm Bureau, a deluded middle class, an ad-hoc pro I-1098 that was actually seedcorn for what you see today, The Seattle Times....
geez, c'mon. asking (omg) why???
as some sort of silly political point to be made today doesn't mean what you think it means.

Fake or not, reading most of those stories tells me that the 53% has a downright shitty quality of life.

@9 Just a little math for you: 54% (voter turnout Washington state 2010) != 99%.
