The first line of the story seems to indicate that they know what they are doing.

You do realize that it's pronounced "YOUR-uh-nuss," right?

Well, I'm a scientist, and I had a good chuckle at the headline. Any (small) doubt I might have had about whether they were aware of the headline was eliminated with the first line.

I am not a scientist, and I laughed quite heartily. I'm just disappointed that they didn't reach out to Rick Santorum for a comment.

My son's Hardy Boys book - written in the 1940s! - has a chapter entitled "A Big Boner". Yep, I giggled like crazy when I read it aloud to him.

@4 - Scientists can come up with whatever conventions they like. It's also pronounced yer-ANE-us, especially when it's funny.
