Chris Christie to Endorse Mitt Romney

Posted by on Tue, Oct 11, 2011 at 11:01 AM

That...that means absolutely nothing to anyone. Christie's national poll numbers are not compelling when compared to the rest of the Republican field, his poll numbers aren't especially great in his own state, and his only real political strength to date has been that he wasn't involved in the race so people could dream about him as an ideal candidate, as opposed to the yahoos who are actually running. Now that Christie's endorsing Mitt, he's a known quantity—and a boring one.

It actually does mean a little bit. Christie is a real Republican, as opposed to a crazy guy wavin an "End of the World Coming" sign like so many of them. The coalescing of the not-crazy segments of the party is underway. Romney is the candidate. A Christie endorsement isn't like one from Saint Reagan, but it's a significant name. Who's endorsing Cain, some pizza-delivery guys?

It also means a lot where fundraising is concerned.

There's tons of Republican money sitting on the sidelines waiting for a viable alternative to Romney to get into the race - a considerable amount of which has been hoping against hope for Christie to change his mind and jump in.

Christie saying 'no' time and again hasn't convinced these potential donors that he won't change his mind - but Christie actually endorsing someone else will, and his endorsing Romney will send a very strong signal to establishment Republicans to start writing checks.

Yup. Romney's the "I'm not crazy" candidate. I've said it all along, but unless he has one helluva meltdown, he's gonna be the nominee.

I wish you wouldn't link to Fox News unless that is absolutely the ONLY news source with the story. Thank you.

Washington Post did it as "Breaking News"

Which it isn't.

@4, As disgusting as it is, visiting that shit-hole to experience the bat-shit crazy is a valuable exercise.
