Westlake: Still Occupied

Posted by on Wed, Oct 5, 2011 at 7:48 AM

The latest tweet:

I have an email in to the park and police departments asking why cops haven't shown up. Yesterday the city announced that protesters would be shooed out and/or arrested after the park closed at 10:00 p.m.

Sounds like the mayor has decided that removing the protesters by force would be more trouble than it is worth.

I was told that the protesters were getting a permit to be there and the mayor is being super helpful and turning a blind eye to the violation until then (though if any trouble starts, the eye won't stay blind for long).

@1- I heard the police have been getting a lot of pressure from Target to disperse them. I'm glad SPD has decided against it. It could quickly go bad.

@7 speaking as someone of the middle class, I applaud the efforts of these lower class activists, as they seem to have my best interests at heart. But they don't seem to actually DOING anything substantive.

Let me know when my gigantic tax burden decreases.

Thanks!

@10, 11 - they are bringing the media's attention to the problem. There are many approaches to bringing about social change; they have picked one and are devoting days of their lives to tit.

What are you doing to bring about the change you hope to see in our society?
